How to wash lace lingerie so it lasts

Five minutes now, years of wear later. This is how we keep our own sets feeling like day one.

Can you put lace lingerie in the washing machine?

You can, if you do it gently. Hand washing is still kindest to lace, satin and embroidery.

  • By hand: cool water and a mild detergent made for delicates. Swirl, don't scrub.
  • By machine: close all hooks, put each piece in a lingerie bag and choose a cold, delicate cycle.

Skip bleach and fabric softener. Both break down elastic and dull lace and satin.

How do you dry lingerie?

Lace, satin and gold hardware: treat them gently.
  • Press the water out in a towel. Never wring.
  • Air dry flat or on a hanger, away from direct sun and radiators.
  • Keep it out of the tumble dryer. Heat is what shortens the life of a good bra.

How do you store bras without ruining them?

  • Store bras flat, or stacked with the cups nested. Folding a cup in on itself leaves a crease.
  • Give your sets a drawer of their own, so hooks can't snag lace or satin.
  • Rotate between sets. A day of rest lets the elastic recover.

How often should you wash a bra?

Two to three wears between washes is normal for a bra. Bottoms are washed after every wear.

The small things that make the difference

  • Use a wash bag. It keeps hooks closed and lace soft, wash after wash. Ours comes with every Muse Kit.
  • Read the label. The care label inside each piece is always leading.
  • Adjust before you replace. A strap that starts to slip usually needs a small adjustment, not a new size.
